Why You Should Consider a First Look | A Blog Series for Brides

FILED IN:

For Brides, Weddings

One thing I value most about my job is having the opportunity to educate my couples on how to have a seamless and stress free wedding day.  I love working with them as they put the pieces of their wedding day together.  Your photography timeline is SO important and I feel it’s my job to help make sure your needs are being met and that you are getting the portrait time you deserve!

Often times that means I am going to highly encourage my couples to consider a first look! There are so many advantages to having a first look that I’ll get into shortly.  I consider it my duty to make sure that you are well educated so that you can make a decision that is right for you and your unique day!!!  So, with that being said, the decision is yours and I will do everything humanly possible to create the best possible experience for you NO MATTER WHAT you decide!! I respect your decision and your opinions so please don’t hesitate to ask me questions as you discern whether or not a First Look is right for you!! No matter what, you’re going to have the most beautiful wedding day! I just want to make sure I help you make it as stress-free as possible!

Here are some reasons why you should consider a First Look”

The first look is a highly popular addition to many weddings day timelines. The first look is the moment when the bride and groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day. No guests, no distractions. It is a very special moment that the bride and groom share that the photographer(s) capture with little to no interruptions.

Unlike the traditional reveal of the bride walking down the aisle as being the time when the couple sees each, the first look is a more intimate moment shared between just the bride and groom. You can actually look into each other’s eyes, which only makes the moment more genuine. The bride isn’t worried about not tripping down the aisle, the groom isn’t trying to hold it together in front of all their guest, it is a moment when the two of you can really take in and savor the moment of seeing each other just before you say your ‘I do’s’.  The first look captures the initial reaction of the bride and groom and allows the two to act naturally when seeing each other for the first time. You can cry, laugh, hug, kiss and just simply be in the moment without having all your guests around. This not only yields beautiful one of a kind images but will also leave you with some spare time to capture a few more couple’s images just after this tender moment.

Despite popular belief, the First Look does not take away the special and sacred moment of the bride coming down the aisle to her groom, if anything, it strengthens the emotions of that moment because the anxiety, nervousness and uneasiness of the day have been removed.  Grooms tend to be more relaxed and able to respond emotionally when the nerves of the day are removed and they can just focus on the gravity of what is happening in that moment. Tears are going to happen either way… or not happen at all. For most brides, it’s very important for them to see their groom respond emotionally to how beautiful he thinks she is. This can put a lot of pressure on the groom…. especially if he isn’t a very emotional guy! If the groom isn’t a crier normally, it would be wise to not expect him to cry on the wedding day. However, some non-emotional grooms shed tears when they are seeing their bride for the first time in a private, intimate environment instead of in front of all of their guests. So if you’re desiring to experience a tender, sweet moment with your groom, you are more likely to experience that interaction if you allow two opportunities for that to happen!

By sharing a First Look, you are extending your wedding day by several HOURS and are creating more opportunities for the two you to enjoy more aspects of your day while also receiving MORE portraits of the two of you! For example, most couples who share a first look take portraits before the ceremony and then immediately take all of their bridal party portraits! This means that your photographers roll right into family formals after the ceremony and then capture some more bride and groom portraits. Once those two tasks are complete,  couples normally start greeting guests by joining cocktail hour while your photographers capture the untouched reception details and mingling! Water Table Wedding Kelley Stinson Photography

Overall, sharing a First Look is one of the only ways that your photographer can guarantee that couples will experienced a day with reduced stress. Your photographers view a First Look as an “Insurance policy” for your wedding day because it allows them to have more than one opportunity for your portraits! Because of this, your photographers should always explain the benefits and why they think it’s so powerful!water table wedding Are you newly engaged and want to learn more about what a wedding experience with Kelley Stinson Photography is like?
